D.I. Hayhurst Memorials offers a choice of available finishes for our granite markers and monuments. You can choose from one of many colors of granite and then select your finish from polished, rock pitched or steeled.

Polished finishes are smooth surfaces with a high sheen. Rock pitched monuments have a more natural look with a rough surface that is finished by hand with a hammer and chisel. A rock pitch finish is sometimes used on a monument’s trim or base to provide contrast with polished or steeled areas of the monument. A steeled finish is a smooth surface that appears lighter and more frosted.

You can personalize your monument by including pictures, portraits or designs, either in black and white or in color. Select from pictures etched in the stone or made of porcelain.  At Pennsylvania Monument Co., with the technology we have available, the only limit on the design is your own imagination.

Polished 2 Die

Die has smooth polished front and back; top sides are natural pitched finish. Base shown has a smooth polished top, while the balance around sides is natural rock pitched finish.

All Polished Die (Polished 5)

Die has polished front and back; polished top and smooth polished ends. Base shown has smooth polished top, the balance around sides is natural rock pitched finished.

Bevels and Flat Markers

Standard finish with a smooth polished flat top; rock pitched natural sides.

Steel Finish Die (no shiny polish)

Steel or satin finish monuments have no polish and can be done just like polished dies with a smooth steel top, rock pitch sides, or all-steel finish (Steel 5).

Slants

Slant markers come standard with a smooth polished face, a smooth sawed back, and the balance rock pitched natural finish, but just like other dies can have a smooth polished top, or be made with an all-polished finish.

Etched monuments

Monuments with etchings are possible only with black polished granite. They are done by an artist with a hand-held diamond-tipped tool. The polished surface of the monument is actually marked with this tool to create the image. They produce much more detail than what is possible with a sandblasted design. Color can be added to the etching if the customer so desires.
